Aircone pots

Many years ago I used to grow under lights, when there were two types of pots, clay and plastic only. Now there is an endless array of media/methods to pot/mount your orchids, including the Aircone pot.

I initially had my doubts (of them being any better than other plastic pots) because they didn't look much different than other plastic pots, at least in shape. However, once I received them, I realized not only were the sides flexible (you could squeeze them, compressing OR loosening the media), but the bottom was uniquely designed for maximum drainage OR retention, if need be.

I purchased 4 Aircone pots. I've used 3 & all of them are currently potted in that type of pot and are all doing better than they were previously. You can use various types of media on the bottom, which I did for even some of my terrestrials (I filled the bottom with large pieces of bark about a 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up & added my terrestrial mix on top of it.). My Sobralia callosa has bloomed twice since September of last year and Cadetia taylorii has bloomed at least three times. Other than orchids that truly must be mounted to grow properly, I highly recommend this type of pot for almost any orchid. Make sure you purchase the right size.

Pros:
  • Strong
  • translucent
  • well%20draining%20
Cons:
  • non-uniform%20holes
These are great pots, heavy duty, well draining and translucent. it is easy to see the moisture level in the pot, keep in mind that they are translucent, not clear.

I recommend checking all of the drainage holes before re-potting, some of the holes in the pots I ordered had a bit of plastic blocking them. The extra bit of plastic was easily removed with a knife. All and all, I really like these pots and have ordered more.

Love Em
